United Way of Delaware recently partnered with Governor John Carney for a book/volunteer drive at the Celebration of the Arts in Delaware event, held at P.S Dupont Middle School. The gathering was part of the governors weekend of Inaugural events, and included performances from a variety of cultures and students from the Delaware school system.

United Way of Delaware collected over 200 books donated by the Wilmington community, as well as signed up 100 Reading Angels (community members who volunteer to read to a Delaware elementary school student for one hour).

“P.S. DuPont being a historical school, and being synonymous with education in Wilmington was the perfect back drop for community members to donate books, or volunteer their precious time. Governor Carney’s office really showed their appreciation for not only the Arts in Delaware but for early childhood education as well. The community really showed they cared based on the amount of books we received and Reading Angels we registered.” – Marcus Watkins United Way of Delaware Staff Member
