Program Honors Legacy of Muriel E. Gilman, Delaware Community Advocate
(January 26, 2012) – In recognition of National Mentoring Day, United Way of Delaware (UWD) announces the creation of “Women in Action” — a unique mentoring program in Delaware to enable aspiring women leaders to take action to make a difference in their communities. The program was inspired by Muriel E. Gilman, UWD’s first female executive. The Women in Action program was recommended by a blue ribbon committee, chaired by Delaware First Lady, Carla Markell, that included 16 Delaware women leaders who worked with Muriel E Gilman during her long career of community service in Delaware.
The Women in Action mentoring program will focus on preparing women for leadership roles in community service, advocacy and volunteerism, whether they are from the public, private or nonprofit sectors. The program is by application and is open to any woman in Delaware who wants to create an impact in her community. Information about the application process will soon be available here, on UWD’s website.
