GIVE 5! UNITED WAY OF DELAWARE TAPS INTO “EXPONENTIAL GENEROSITY” FOR ONLINE CAMPAIGN TO RAISE $5 PER PERSON

Wilmington, Del. (June 17, 2009) — Want to help your community, but don’t want to write a check right now? United Way of Delaware has launched a statewide online campaign to raise small donations via e-mail and various social networking sites.

Give 5 kicked off today with a video e-mail to nearly 5,000 United Way supporters throughout Delaware. To participate, recipients watch the video describing the need in Delaware, click the link to make a $5 donation (or more) on the secure site, then pass the e-mail on to five friends.

“Some people feel that small gifts do not make a big difference. That’s not true,” says Michelle A. Taylor, President and Chief Executive Officer of United Way of Delaware. “The Give 5 campaign addresses this misconception head on, by taking a popular medium—the internet—and making it easy for people to make a small donation and pass the message on. The result is exponential generosity, which is Living United at its best.”

Proceeds benefit United Way of Delaware’s Community Impact Fund, which supports more than 100 of the state’s most effective health and human service programs.

To participate in the Give 5 campaign, go to www.uwde.org. There, you can view the video, make a donation and forward the message.

About United Way of Delaware

United Way of Delaware (UWD) is Delaware’s largest and oldest nonprofit fundraising organization. One of only two statewide United Ways in America, UWD’s mission is to maximize the community’s resources to improve the quality of life for Delawareans. With statewide headquarters in Wilmington and offices in Dover and Rehoboth Beach, UWD funds more than 115 social service programs in New Castle, Kent, and Sussex counties, thanks to the generous support of individual and corporate donors, as well as foundation grants and other gifts.

In addition to funding a network of crisis alleviation and other social service programs, UWD is engaged in a long-term strategy to eliminate the root causes of many of Delaware’s most pressing social service problems. To do this, UWD is leading collaborative efforts to help children and youth achieve their potential, promote financial stability and independence, and improve health. For more information, to make a contribution, or to volunteer to work with UWD, please visit www.uwde.org or call (302) 573-3700.
