UNITED WAY OF DELAWARE’S “GIVING ON THE GREENS” GOLF TOURNAMENT RAISES MORE THAN $15,000 FOR THE COMMUNITY

Millsboro, Del. (October 7, 2008) — United Way of Delaware’s “Giving on the Greens” golf tournament, held on October 6, raised more than $15,000 for the Community Impact Fund. This fund supports more than 100 of the state’s most effective health and human service agencies—50 of which address pressing social problems in Kent and Sussex counties.

More than 70 golfers participated in the fundraising tournament, which was held at the Peninsula Golf & Country Club in Millsboro.

“Golf is a sport that brings together people from different backgrounds,” said Michelle Taylor, President and Chief Executive Officer of United Way of Delaware. “This tournament was the perfect opportunity to show our Live United spirit and to support our neighbors in need.”

Major sponsors included AARP, Atlantic Sands Hotel & Conference Center, Valero Energy Corporation, and Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor, LLP. In addition, i.g. Burton Imports offered a BMW Convertible for the winner of the hole-in-one contest.

This sizeable donation to the Community Impact Fund will be included in United Way of Delaware’s 2008 Campaign total. This years’ goal is to raise $22 million to further the mission of maximizing the community’s resources to improve the quality of life for all Delawareans. The 2008 Campaign will run through January, though United Way of Delaware welcomes donations throughout the year.
