UNITED WAY OF DELAWARE ROLLS OUT 2008 CAMPAIGN WITH A GOAL OF $22 MILLION. GET ON THE BUS!
To celebrate the official 2008 Campaign kickoff, UWD is initiating the first-ever “Live United Loop”—bus tours of several partner agencies.
“These bus tours offer an ‘up close and personal view’ of our community’s needs,” said Michelle A. Taylor, President and Chief Executive Officer of United Way of Delaware. “Our dedicated partner agencies are making great progress, but there is much yet to be done. By becoming involved in the 2008 Campaign, people can help United Way of Delaware address the root causes of Delaware’s most pressing social problems.”
Two separate tours were offered in Wilmington. The tours began at Bank of America’s office at 11th and King Streets. The agencies visited included the YWCA Homelife Management Program, Latin American Community Center, West End Neighborhood House, Wilmington Senior Center, Kingswood Community Center, and the Opportunity Center, Inc. (OCI).
This Live United Loop is just the first of many tours to come. United Way of Delaware will offer similar loops in Kent and Sussex counties during the campaign season, and potentially throughout the year.
The purpose of the tours is to raise awareness of the need in the community and also to encourage participation in United Way of Delaware’s fundraising campaign.
The 2008 Campaign is co-chaired by Chris Buccini, Managing Partner, Buccini/Pollin Group and Wayne Holden, First Vice President, Investments, Merrill Lynch.
Gifts to the United Way of Delaware’s Community Impact Fund or to one of five Strategic Focus Areas are encouraged because these undesignated funds allow UWD to focus attention and resources on three key areas: education, income and health. UWD’s Strategic Focus Areas include:
• Success By 6, which ensures that young children enter school prepared to succeed.
• Financial Stability, which promotes economic stability and advancement for all Delawareans.
• Healthy and Independent Communities, which ensures that all Delawareans have access to healthcare and the support to live independently. This initiative is supported by AstraZeneca.
• Strong Families, Strong Children, which helps school-age children and families succeed.
• Strong Neighborhoods, which develops safe and stable communities that foster residents’ potential. This initiative is supported by JPMorgan Chase.
“Donations of all sizes are welcome,” Buccini said. “That’s what Living United is all about. Some people have the ability to give more than others, but it’s the combination of all gifts that allows United Way of Delaware to have such a powerful impact on the community. Together, we have the ability to really make a difference in the lives of thousands of Delawareans.”
The 2008 Campaign will run through January, although United Way of Delaware welcomes donations throughout the year. For more information or to make a donation, please call (302) 573-3700 or visit our website at www.uwde.org.
