MICHELLE TAYLOR IS APPOINTED NEW UNITED WAY OF DELAWARE PRESIDENT

Wilmington, DE (Dec. 13, 2007) – The board of directors of United Way of Delaware today unanimously appointed Michelle A. Taylor president of the organization, effective January 1, 2008. Taylor will succeed Drew Langloh, who has accepted the role of president of United Way of Central Alabama, effective March 3, 2008.

Taylor, a career nonprofit professional, is presently executive vice president and chief operating officer of United Way of Delaware. For the last two years, she has been leading the implementation of United Way’s strategy to collaborate with other groups to focus resources to eliminate some of Delaware’s most pressing social problems. At the same time, she has led the administrative functions at United Way of Delaware, providing leadership in such areas as fundraising, marketing, finance, and community impact.

Prior to joining United Way of Delaware (UWD) as director of finance and administration in 2000, Taylor was finance director for Delaware Hospice. She has also held volunteer positions with Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay Council and Boys and Girls Clubs of Delaware. She also serves on the board of the Delaware Association of Nonprofit Agencies. She holds a BS in accounting from Morgan State University and an MBA from Wilmington University.

Commenting on Taylor’s appointment, UWD board chair Dr. Robert Laskowski, president & chief executive officer of Christiana Care Health System, said the UWD board is pleased that the transition to new leadership will happen “seamlessly.” He said, “For almost four years, Michelle and Drew have been working together on every aspect of United Way of Delaware. We are sad to be losing Drew, but we are fortunate that someone as qualified as Michelle is ready to assume the leadership of United Way.”

Dr. Laskowski added, “Michelle has been a real asset to United Way of Delaware. She is well qualified to lead the organization as United Way continues reaching out to the community to collaborate with others to address social problems in all three counties. Her experience and leadership skills and the fact that she has been so deeply involved in planning and implementing our strategy mean that United Way will not skip a beat during this transition. Everyone at United Way is excited about the future.”

After nearly four years as president of UWD, Langloh leaves Delaware to become president of United Way of Central Alabama, based in Birmingham, Alabama – an agency where he had served as head of fundraising prior to assuming his position in Delaware.

“Delaware is a special place and leaving is not easy,” Langloh said. “We have been embraced by the community and, in turn, United Way has worked hard to give so much back, especially to those who need it the most. United Way of Delaware is clearly a more relevant, more year-round, more engaged organization than it has ever been. I am certain that, under Michelle’s leadership, this will continue.”

Commenting on Langloh’s leadership of United Way of Delaware, Dr. Laskowski said, “Nearly four years ago, Drew Langloh provided the vision to take UWD from what was then primarily a donor designation organization to what today is a community impact organization driving positive social change. We thank him. We will miss him. At the same time, we look forward to the continuity and vitality of leadership that Michelle brings in serving our community. She will continue to implement our strategy of positive community impact through building community partnerships. United Way of Delaware and our community are very fortunate to have her as our new leader.”
