Dear Friends and Partners,
On behalf of all of us at United Way of Delaware (UWD), our thoughts go out to everyone who was affected by Hurricane Sandy, particularly those who are now struggling to cope with sudden loss and uncertainty left in its wake.
Over the past week, thousands of families up and down the East Coast and right here in Delaware have struggled with flooding and damage following Hurricane Sandy. While we were still fortunate that some of the hurricane’s local impact wasn’t as terrible as predicted, it nonetheless left many without power and needing support services.
United Way of Delaware, in partnership with the American Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula, has established a special Disaster Relief Fund.
Matching donations are available up to a total of $10,000.00.
Every dollar donated will go to Red Cross Disaster Relief.
To donate by check, please make the check payable to “United Way of Delaware Disaster Relief Fund.” In the memo section, write “9428” and mail to:
United Way of Delaware Disaster Relief Fund
Third Floor
625 N. Orange Street
Wilmington, DE 19801
So that we can put your contributions to work immediately, we request credit card or check donations only.
This isn’t the first disaster relief fund UWD has supported, but it’s one of the most important because it impacts families right here in Delaware.
Further, with leadership from United Way of New York City, United Ways along the Eastern Seaboard have established the United Way Hurricane Sandy Recovery Fund to address near-term and long-term recovery needs of communities most affected by the hurricane. Contributions to the Fund will be used by United Ways in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Washington, DC and West Virginia to address recovery needs in communities that FEMA has declared disaster areas. We give our sincere thanks to United Way of New York City who will manage the regional fund. Visit UWSandyRecovery.org to donate to the Fund.
As the region begins its journey to a full recovery, United Way of Delaware will always be there for our communities. Now is the time to Live United, and we thank you for giving in whatever way you can.
Sincerely,
